Slide Show
My goal for the slide show below is to add a picture of Finn weekly so that we can watch him grow. I want to figure out how to post it to the bottom of the page so that it's always there. I'll work on that...

Karma
They say what goes around, comes around. Unfortunately for Finn, I have spent a good amount of time "admiring" and maybe laughing about that not so stylish haircut known as a mullet. Yes, my friends and I have been known to slyly point out mullets we spot and even sometimes snap pictures of really sweet mullets. Well, this is where karma comes into play. My sweet, adorable son is paying for my misdeeds. The poor little guy is sporting a baby mullet of his own. The hair where his head lays is very light and thin, but he has a thick tuft of hair at the base of his neck. It may not be the most stylish hairdo, but he pulls it off pretty well. Check it out...

Poor little guy didn't have a chance. Check out his dad's sweet 'stache and muscle tee. He was destined to have a mullet.
Happy 8 Weeks
Finn turned 8 weeks old yesterday. Here is a super cute picture of him "reading" his Fuzzy Bee book.
He is smiling pretty regularly now and is still a good little guy. We are working on getting him to take good naps during the day. Today has been a pretty good nap day. He is sleeping right now (going on 1 hour and 20 minutes) and has taken two other short naps today. He is napping in his crib, but is still sleeping in the bassinet in our room at night which makes those 3am feedings easier on me. We only have about 2 inches left to grow before the bassinet will be too small. Crossing my fingers that consistently sleeping through the comes before that next growth spurt.

Change Has Come
Whether you're happy about it or not politically, no one can deny the social and historical significance of today. Seeing as this blog is serving as a virtual baby book for Finn, I felt compelled to create an entry regarding the inauguration of our new president. Finn and I watched the ceremony today - okay, he just kind of laid there - and I was amazed by the whole thing. The sea of people two miles long was astounding. President Obama is an unbelievable speaker and his speech was inspiring and moving. No one knows what the next four years will bring, but right now there is a palpable feeling of hope and optimism across the country. Here's the dude watching the festivities with his bee...
Uncle Randy Visits

This is actually Uncle Randy's second visit, but he was sick the first time and didn't want to hold Finn. Finn quickly initiated him by giving him a smile and a big ole toots!
P.S. Uncle Randy is wearing that sweet Cubs sweatshirt for me. It was a gift from his friends in Denver who Wes and I met when we went out there for a Cubs vs. Rockies series.

Finn Has Found His Voice
Finn has become quite a little chatterbox. Here's a video of him talking to me.
I may be the only one who hears it, but I am convinced Finn said, "Hi Mom!" What do you think?
First Trip to the Big City
Finn made his first trip to Chicago last week. Wes and I were going for the Reading Recovery Conference and we brought Grandma Kandy along to babysit. Unfortunately, it was EXTREMELY cold while we were there. Actual temps got as low as -17 and windchill was well into the -30s. Finn and Grandma Kandy didn't have many options for entertainment. The conference was held in the hotel we were staying at which was convenient. I could run up to the room and feed Finn and they could come down and join us for lunch. Of course Finn was a big hit with the 99% female conference-goers. Here he is chilling in the hotel room. Doesn't look like he's missed too many meals, does it?

Wes and I decided that we needed to move into a hotel because Finn slept so well. He slept 5 hours straight for the first time. If only we could afford it. The trip definitely proved that he is a pretty easy going baby. He adjusted well to schedule changes and didn't mind being around hundreds of people. Wes and I say it all the time - he's a good little guy!

1 Month Wellness Check Up
Today was a big day for Finn. He had his 1 month doctor appointment which meant he had to get a shot. :( He is in the 80th percentile in weight and length - 11lbs 8.5 oz and 23 inches long (this just proves that our home scale is WAY off). We took a picture of him with his first band-aid from the shot.

While we were at the doctor's office stripping him down for his weighing, the last piece of his umbilcal cord stitch came out which means TIME FOR HIS FIRST BATH! What an adventure it was. He seemed to like the bath okay. Of course he decided to pee in the tub. Unfortunately, I had just put the camcorder down.
After his bath, we wrapped him in his "Little Illini Fan" towel and posed for a couple pics.
Here's what the towel looked like after the pics. Yes, apparently the bath served as a laxative for Finn. After this incident, we promptly got him into a diaper and he promptly filled the diaper too. Never a dull minute...

Happy New Year!

We spent New Year's Eve at home this year. We were very happy to have Jenny visiting for a couple of days. We decided to make dinner (steaks and twice baked potatoes - yummy!) and invite Kandy and Betty Jo over. We had a great time playing cards and eating lots of treats. Here we are ringing in the New Year.
A couple more pics of Finn with Aunt Jenny...
1 Month Old!

Finn turned 1 month old on 11-30. We took another idea from Sheryl (she's got so many great ones) and decided to take a picture of Finn in an adult sized shirt each year as he grows and watch him grow into it. We decided to use the Sandy Koufax jersey that Wes bought Walt last year. We went ahead and added a Dodgers hat, too. We thought we'd take the first one on his 1 month birthday and then continue to take them every year. Here's the first one...
Finn has really grown in his first month of life. We have our 1 month doctor appointment next Tuesday and we will get his official weight and length then. According to our scale he is 12.5 pounds already!
